The De Leon Bearcats struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Santo, giving up 12 runs. De Leon got things moving in the first inning, when Trey Lopez drew a walk, scoring one run. In the top of the second inning, Santo tied things up at one. Tanner hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run. Santo pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Benson tripled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Motley doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Lane Powledge induced Walker to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Santo scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Santo came thanks to by Benson and an error on a ball put in play by Motley.
Benson led the Santo to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He went two innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Procter threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Powledge took the loss for De Leon. He allowed three hits and six runs over three and a third innings, striking out seven. Powledge, Landon Wilkerson, JT Morris, Mattson Locke, and Dawson Matthews each collected one hit to lead the Bearcats. Santo was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Benson had the most chances in the field with five.
