Dawson Matthews drove in five on two hits to lead the Deleon Bearcats past Haskell 16-2 on Saturday. Matthews drove in runs on a single in the second and a triple in the fifth.
Haskell captured the lead in the first inning. Haskell scored one run when Bassett singled to right field.
Deleon took the lead for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Colton Smith singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Lane Powledge drew a walk, scoring one run, Williams threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for the Bearcats, Trey Lopez singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Matthews singled on a 3-0 count, scoring two runs.
Austin Stogsdill was the winning pitcher for Deleon. He went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Kevin Yeager and Marshall Cogburn entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Medford took the loss for Haskell. He allowed two hits and five runs over one inning.
The Bearcats scattered eight hits in the game. Matthews, Mattson Locke, and Smith all collected multiple hits. Deleon stole ten bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Lopez led the way with two.
An error free game by the Bearcats move them to a 7-7 record on the regular season.
